Jared Male Debuts A Community-Minded Barbecue Restaurant in NYC on Sunday, August 26th
August 26, 2018 (New York, NY) – Jared Male, a talented veteran of Hill Country Barbecue, Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and the former Executive Pitmaster at Big Easy in London, will open Randall's Barbecue (359 Grand Street; 646.692.9980; www.randallsbarbecueny.com) on Sunday, August 26th. Located in the heart of the Lower East Side, the eatery offers a creative spin on classic American barbecue.
Named after Male's grandfather, a food-lover and Northeasterner, Randall’s features classic American barbecue dishes as well as a variety of regionally-inspired fare. As a lifelong New Yorker, Male’s menu will intermingle New York classics such as House-Cured & Smoked Pastrami, Chinese-Style Five-Spice Smoked Duck, and Classic Buffalo Wings. Pickles are all sourced from next door neighbor, The Pickle Guys, and bialys for their sandwiches come from Kossar’s just a few doors down.
Randall’s menu begins with a selection of appetizers, such as Battered & Fried Smoked Portobello and Smokehouse Bacon with Spicy Bourbon Syrup. The menu also includes classic barbecue standbys like Brisket and Spare Ribs, in addition to Male’s twists on classics like his Indian-Spiced Lamb Shank. Accompanying sides include smokehouse staples, such as Baked Beans, Vinegar Slaw, Cornbread, and Mac and Cheese and non-traditional items like Israeli Salad and Smoked Sweet Potatoes. Randall’s barbecue offerings will also be served in sandwich form, with signatures like the House-Smoked BLT and The Randall with pastrami, smoked chopped liver, and vinegar slaw, all served on Kossar’s bialys.
The bar program at Randall’s emphasizes shot-friendly spirits such as whiskey and tequila, along with cocktails that include The Randall with mezcal, birch beer, and lime, rimmed with Randall’s rib rub; and The Winterburn with bourbon, birch beer, amaro, and bitters – a nod to Male’s grandmother’s maiden name. Classic and local craft beer is another focus, with options like Narragansett and LIC Beer Project.
The decor at Randall’s reflects Male’s nostalgia for 70s and 80s design elements, including the den at his grandparents’ house in rural Connecticut, and features vintage design touches. The walls are outfitted with knotted pine chevron wood paneling, and retro Budweiser beer signage. The room is lined with several custom-made ash wood communal tables and benches and a spalted maple bar top and various keepsakes from Male’s grandparents are also scattered throughout the space.
Randall’s Barbecue opens to the public on Sunday, August 26th. The restaurant is open 5:00pm to 1:00pm from Sunday through Wednesday and 5:00pm to 2:00am from Thursday through Saturday.
